Why was this material world created at its first place?

The material worlds are created and destroyed constantly, there was never a first time, it has been going on eternally.

Outside the material world is the spiritual world. It is a place filled with innumerable planets that extend in all directions forever. Instead of the darkness of our universe, the spiritual world is bathed in the light of the brahmajyoti emanating from Krishna’s transcendental form. All of the planets are occupied and the Supreme Lord resides on each planet, each of which is magnificently beautiful, and far surpasses the wildest dreams of heaven or paradise.

There is no suffering here, no anxiety, no effect of time that ages and destroys everything in the material world. The trees are wish-fulfilling trees which supply whatever a person wants. There is no scarcity of anything and no dissatisfaction. Everyone experiences real freedom and can pursue all their desires.

The harmony is maintained because the Supreme Lord is at the centre of everything. In any one of His unlimited forms He reciprocates with each and every being in their preferred mood. Everyone and everything has a unique relationship with the Lord. It is not that there are no other interpersonal relationships, there are, but the primary relationship of everyone is with the Lord and couples combine to compliment each other’s service to the Lord.

This is normal. This accounts for the majority of what is manifest. It is eternal, and no one has the concept of birth, old age, disease or death because they have never known of them. There is just the Lord and all the living entities enjoying each others company in endless varieties of activities in endless locations, forever. This is what is natural, Absolutely Natural.

Our version in the material world is relatively natural. A small percentage of living beings, for some reason or other, opts to visit the material world. There are amazingly beautiful places in the material universe, and a person can achieve spectacular powers, up to creating planets and controlling nature. They do not rival the spiritual world, but they are none-the-less impressive in a relative sense. Even though the opulence and magnificence of the material world cannot match that of the spiritual world, there is one aspect that attracts some people.

Here a person can do something and step back with pride and say “I did that.” They can acquire something for themselves and say “This is mine.” They can interrupt someone and say “What about me?”

In the spiritual world it is known that everything belongs to the Lord, it is understood that the Lord is the ability in man (and women) and the whole focus is always on the Lord, even in interpersonal relationships the focus is still on how ‘we’ can do this or that, with or for, the Lord. Every now and then a person wants it all to be about them and they desire to try their hand in the material world because the spiritual world doesn’t work like that. It would be chaos if bank tellers were allowed to set up their own bank while working for HDFC or ICICI. If someone wants to run their own bank then they must leave whichever bank they are working for and go it alone.

For all of us who have that mentality, the material world is provided. Here the Lord is not overtly manifest even though He pervades the entire creation. So we can believe that we are the doers, controllers and enjoyers separate from the Lord. Actually we aren’t, but it is set up so that we can think we are, because that’s what we want.

The Lord accompanies us situated in everyone's heart and is noting our desires from within. According to one's desires, the Lord orders material nature to provide a particular body. In this way one continues transmigrating from body to body, in various species of life. According to our desires, the Lord makes us remember or forget. If the living entity is demoniac and wants to forget the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the Lord gives him the intelligence to be able to forget the Supreme Lord forever. Similarly, when a devotee wants to serve the Supreme Lord, the Lord, as Paramatma, gives the devotee the intelligence to make progress in devotional service. The Lord directly witnesses our activities and experiences our desires. The Supreme Lord gives us the facilities to act in the way we wish.

But, there are consequences for our activities, and they are not always nice. This is to prompt us to reconsider our initial desire to leave the spiritual world and perhaps have a change of heart and admit that we are not so mighty and important after all. Maybe it would be nicer to be back where we belong and forget about this material world business and trying to act like Krishna, the supreme enjoyer and controller.

This in brief is why the material world is manifest.
